FGI-AZ had its official meeting for 2014, marking Fashion Group International Arizona’s 15th year anniversary. The theme of the evening was “Refresh: Make A Fresh Start in 2014″ emphasizing fresh food, fashion, faces, and focus.
We were excited to host our meeting at Fresh Start Women’s Foundation and welcome a room full of lovely new and veteran members – whom our director Angela Johnson affectionately dubbed as “dyed in the wool.” It was a festive evening kicking off with an introduction from Angela and the new board members.
But what would an evening with FGI-AZ be without a fashion show? While nibbling on Southwestern inspired vegetarian fare from Bragg’s Factory Diner, we enjoyed a fashion show inspired from spring 2014 runway trends. Courtesy of Fresh Start and Art Institute of Phoenix students, who modeled new and gently used clothing from Fresh Start Treasures boutique, we saw a bevy of beautiful fashions perfect for the season, from glitzy metallic fabrics to Pantone’s color of the year Radiant Orchid. We couldn’t help but oo-and-ah at the looks, and the prices too, ranging from $3 crystal bracelets to $50 vintage bags. To complement the chic looks we saw, we learned about a few must-have beauty products from make up artist Diane Aiello, who gave treasurer Katy Hansen a makeover.
With our energy worked up and an urge to shop for all the trends and beauty musts we discovered, we had an amazing opportunity to experience Beat For Life, which is an organization that teaches group empowerment drumming. Some of the health benefits explained to us included reducing anxiety and lowering blood pressure. But we were most excited by how much fun we had creating a drum rhythm as a group through an exercise we learned. There were some solo acts too from our director Angela and executive member Brian Hill of Phoenix Fashion Week. But no worries, we don’t think they’ll be giving up their fashionable day jobs any time soon.
To close out the evening, raffle winners were drawn to win a free year membership and a basket chock full of beauty products courtesy of Philosophy. The winners were former board member Bitsy Susich and founding member Francine McCrae. What a perfect way to kick off our chapter’s 15th year anniversary.
